Kathmandu – The Ministry of Health and Population has directed that ambulance services be provided only with permission, stating that most of the ambulances operating across the country are still operating without permission.
A meeting of the National Ambulance Management Committee under the Health Emergency and Disaster Management Unit held on 30 Jestha 2082 decided that all ambulances operating without a permit will now have to obtain a mandatory operating permit.
The notice issued by the Ministry of Health states, ‘From now on, if you want to provide ambulance services, you will have to provide the service in coordination with the District Ambulance Management Committee. Also, all standards must be followed while providing the service.’
To obtain a permit, the criteria include having a GPS system installed, mandatory affiliation with the dispatch center system, providing service in the district where the tax exemption is granted, and having a four-wheel drive vehicle.
Similarly, according to the directive, the category, color, equipment, and driver training must be completed, and even when recommending a revenue exemption, it is stated that in accordance with Section 13 (Z) of the National Ambulance Directive 2078, the provincial recommendation letter must clearly state whether or not the exemption has been taken before.
